Background of the Study
Digital storytelling through platforms like YouTube has transformed the ways in which narratives are constructed and consumed. In Nigeria, YouTube vlogs have become a powerful medium for semantic expression, where content creators blend traditional storytelling techniques with modern digital communication strategies. This study examines how digital storytelling influences semantic expression in Nigerian YouTube vlogs, focusing on how creators employ innovative language forms to engage audiences. Vloggers often use metaphors, colloquial expressions, and hybrid language forms that reflect both global trends and local cultural nuances (Umar, 2023). These semantic innovations are not only a means of entertainment but also serve as a tool for social commentary and identity expression. The study will analyze a corpus of vlogs to identify recurrent semantic patterns and assess how digital platforms facilitate linguistic creativity. Previous research has shown that digital storytelling can alter conventional language use and encourage the development of new semantic conventions (Eze, 2024). By bridging the gap between traditional narrative forms and modern digital communication, this research contributes to our understanding of how digital media shape semantic expression in contemporary Nigerian culture (Umar, 2023; Eze, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Although digital storytelling has gained prominence in Nigeria, there is limited research on its specific impact on semantic expression in YouTube vlogs. The dynamic and interactive nature of digital media has led to the emergence of new semantic conventions that remain largely undocumented. This gap in research hinders the understanding of how digital platforms influence language innovation and narrative structure. Without a focused study on the linguistic strategies employed in YouTube vlogs, the broader implications of digital storytelling on semantic change remain unclear. This study aims to address this gap by analyzing the language use in Nigerian vlogs, thereby providing insights into the role of digital media in evolving semantic practices (Umar, 2023; Eze, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
